With all the starving and dying people in the world...is cheating really that bad of a thing?

When 2 people are married, they should be committed to each other. When you are cheating on your wife/husband, then you obviously don't love them and there is no point to being married. And you obviously don't know the emotional toll on people who are cheated on. They expect their relationship to be between the 2 of them, not anyone else.
