How do you get rid of Iguana's wrecking havoc in FL? Can you shoot them?

How are you supposed to get rid of the Iguanas around here? It may seem like animal cruelty to shoot the Iguanas that drop from your trees, destroy your plants, eat your puppies, and terrorize your kids, but when it comes down to it, it may be an only option. What do you all do to keep them away?
