Aunts ex moved to canada and left her with joint mortgage?

My aunts partner left her at the end of last year after meeting someone on the internet. They took out a joint mortgage the previous year. He has now emigrated to Canada to be with the woman off the internet. Does anyone know if he is allowed to emigrate legally with this debt left behind.
